Great review of Beccy’s 2018 Muster performance with the Sisters Of Twang!
I think Beccy went on to do five new songs in a row! Five songs I had never heard other than in my ears as I took a walk around the Gympie camping grounds after I’d downloaded the album that morning, bang on its release. Apart from the fact that I was itching to sing along and didn’t know them yet (or should I say I sort of sang along to the really catchy bits that had stayed in my head), I couldn’t get the smile off my face. This new album is incredible, it could be her best. Ok, that’s a big statement but the lyrics, the clever, clever lyrics, the humour (sometimes subtle, sometime sledgehammer) and the music. They’re her melodies, there’s no mistaking them, just like I knew she had written ‘Back To Broken Hill’ for Libby O’Donovan as soon as I’d heard it and just like I knew she had written ‘FU Cancer’ for Catherine Britt as soon as I’d heard it. Not to say they sound the same, I mean they are just SO Beccy Cole… maybe that’s crazy fan talk!
The songs, the band (3 of them had never been to Gympie, how cool is that!), the SHOW, it was as good as I’ve ever seen her, heard her, experienced her. She was on fire. Proven when a bloke yelled out “show us your t*ts” and boy did she tear him a new one in the funniest and in the end, nicest way possible. The video is floating around, it’s well worth the look. So yeah, I’m a Beccy Cole tragic, I know but she won Gympie, hands down! And I know every word of that album now…and I have tickets to see 3 more Beccy Cole shows this year. Stalker?
